..The phone rings, waking me up.
"Yeah?" I answer, groggily.
It's my sister. "Turn on the news".
"Huh? Do you know what time it is?"
"Turn on the news, dammit!"
"Fine!"
I stumble out of bed, eliciting a sleepy "What's going on?" from my wife.
"Sis called. She said to turn on the TV."
Rubbing my eyes, I make my way into the front room, turn on the TV and switch the channel to CNN.
Just in time to see the second plane hit.
I will never forget.

That's how it happened for me too - except that it was a friend who rang. Had a hard time driving to work that morning.
Yup. I was in a daze for the entire day. Had news radio on at work, don't think I got a whole lot done.
Yep, I think my sister woke me up too. About the same time. Sat in a traffic jam tryin' to get on the base, which was locked down. Never forget it.
that's almost identical to my experience. My sister called me and said "turn on the tv. turn on any channel."
Looking at it, processing the information, I said to my sister "But, there are two buildings. That's not the WTC - there's two buildings there."
And in time to see the second one fall. And the world changed. Chilling.
Some things, like seeing Kennedy shot, seeing Oswald shot, seeing the second Kennedy shot, seeing King and Wallace shot...and others, and that second damn plane I wish I could erase.
However, it's all there and will go with me until the end. I hate the people that put those kind of things into my head.
