Traditional values...

Iranian style.
I have absolutely no respect for a culture that treats its women in such a way.
I've heard it said many times that Islam reveres its women, that we in the west disrespect our women because of what they wear.
I'm having a real hard time seeing that Islamic love and respect of women in a public beat-down of this lady by police officers for not wearing a frigging headscarf!
Fine, if that's the law, write her a damn ticket, but beating her bloody in front of a crowd? WTF? Is that Islamic "tough love"?
If you follow that link, you'll see some good news: there's a lot of bloggers in Iran who seem to be up in arms over this.
Note to Iranian bullyboys: keep this shit up, and y'all might be on the wrong end of the next revolution in Iran...

Some differences between cultures can be written off and accepted, but this shit just goes beyond the pale. There's NOTHING the west can learn from these people. Their culture peaked a thousand years ago asnd it's been a progressively ugle slide into the ash heap of history. Anything we can do to speed up that slide, or try to encourage a turn towards a more civilized...

Oh, shit, "Hondo" just came on Turner. I'm out.

I think the major hope for a turnaround in Iran centers on the fact that the majority population is very young, and I think the appeal of secularism is too great to resist indefinitely. Their hardline government knows this, too, and is trying to steady their grip on the populace before it's too late. In the meantime, they're going to kill a lot of women publicly. It's pornographic, isn't it??? I mean, when you hear that some of the men doing the stoning and beating are related to the women? Well, they have to be getting some perverse pleasure out of it. Mouthy heifer like me wouldn't have a chance, and what sort of boring world would that be?

I agree, phlemmy; a new generation is growing up there that doesn't seem too impressed with Sharia Law. Judging from polls of muslims in the west, I'm thinking Sharia Law is like communism: it looks great to the believers on the outside, but to those actually living under it, not so good...
