Sporadic blogging about whatever interests or irritates me, whenever time and inclination intersect.
"Liberty never came from government. The history of liberty is a history of resistance. The history of liberty is a history of limitations of governmental power, not the increase of it."

Cool. It looks like a nice little place. I lived in a similar place when I was a kid called Carpenders Park, outside of West Ruislip, between 67 and 70 (1st to 3rd grade). We were stationed over there with the Air Force. My sister and I both loved the hell out of it. She was born over there in the 50s, when they were stationed there the first time. She was a teenager when I was there, and it was the time of the Beatles, Cream, etc. I learned to love history over there. Used to love a TV show they had where a Roman kid and a British kid became friends. They had another one called Jacanouri, that I used to love a lot.
Hey, thanks for comin' over and leavin' a comment. Come back some time. FHB

Jackanory! I remember that! That was the show where they read stories... that was the first time I heard of "The Hobbit"... thanks for stopping by, FHB.
Kewl! It's a "wick"! If you drew a line at about the opposite angle and hit up around Bishop Aukland, some 78.9 miles distant there's a weenie little town off the A690 with my family name. I don't think we're actually from there, but we visited once just-because. Very nice people invited us to a wedding party and I got smashed and danced with the cute bridesmaids, my parents looked on much disapprovingly...
Yeah, it was settled by a Saxon named Bernulf. Bernulf's Wick morphed over the centuries into Barnoldswick.
"Mine" might have been settled by a Hun then? ;-) In fact the name itself I believe is older, but I'm not up on all the data as much as my mom who does some genealogy. Other family live in Milton Keynes and my aunt (grandpa's brother's daughter actually) lives now in London Colny. They used to live (when we visited) in Winchmore Hill, near Enfield.
